Loved this!
I have a 7 year old daughter as well and this story you told could have happened at my house!
I also have 3 sons so, she is The Princess! (and she knows it).

We have recently begun to have so small battles about clothing. She is starting to know what she likes, and what she doesn’t. It’s kind of hard for me to let go because.. well.. the boys clothes are SO BORING!!!!

The scene with the glasses… totally happened here too. I didn’t let her wear them but, she really wanted to.
You are a MUCH nice Mummy than I am.

I didn’t even both trying to find green for my youngest daughter. She only wears pink, purple and pink and purple. Thankfully she is too young to care. She has no Irish blood whatsoever and probably will never care about this holiday unless the dreaded peer pressure grabs her by the throat.

JD: I am not the least bit surprised that you would fake your eye exam to get glasses. I did the same thing. Now I need them but I don’t wear them. I’ve always like the color green but have never worn it that much, certainly not kelly green. Forest green is okay. Frills and pink are always fun.

Kelly: She peeled herself out of it when she got home. Not because I ruined her day, but because it was 60 degrees and therefor shorts, tank top and flip flops weather. She is still wearing the glasses however. I love that you had to “represent”!

Mrsblogalot: The boys wears nothing but black, I wear mostly gray at this point, only because that’s how it comes out of the washer after the billionth time. I’m sure she will learn all about the wonder that is the color black soon enough. I think I started wearing it in 7th grade. She still likes frilly and loud colors, she can get away with them still.

Katherine: I didn’t ruin her day. I can see why your mom might want to skip the whole yellow thing. My son had jaundice when he was born. It was mild. Before I knew that he was jaundiced I was thrilled that he actually had some color to his skin. He looked tan. I thought, great, he won’t be pasty white like me. It cleared up in a day or two and I don’t think his skin has seen the sun since. Maddie wears those same kinds of outfits. Polka dots with stripes, clashing colors, all that, but she isn’t the only one, though she does take it to a new level. No cosmo modeling career for her either.

I can’t wait to hear if you ruined her life!!! You will HAVE to tell! My dad always tried to dress me in plaid. Because I was a redhead. EW. He never won. My parents tried to dress me in green. Because I was a redhead. EW. It never happened. And yellow? Mom never dressed me in that b/c I almost died as a baby from jaundice – I was yellow head to toe. She just couldn’t put me in yellow. My redhead wears pink, purple, black, yellow, red, plaid, green… all at the same time most days. You will NOT be seeing her in Cosmo!

Awesome! When I was little my mother had me wear green to “represent” my Irish heritage and I hated it—I could wear green any other day but St. Patty’s.

Thanks for the post—I’m trying to picture the teal outfit with huge red glasses. You must take pictures to show them to her when she’s older and appreciates all the effort—so funny!
