Doing Things Differently

If you read Momma Mia Culpa you know that Meleah has been Doing Things Differently (DTD) for a while now. If you don’t read Momma Mia Culpa then you better get over there and start reading because Meleah is an awesome writer and she has one of the greatest families.

Last week Meleah was told that she had to stop doing things differently for a while. This saddened Meleah because she has worked so hard, making small changes in the hopes that they will add up to big changes. Jennifer was also saddened to learn that Meleah must take a break from DTD. Jennifer decided to pick up the DTD torch while Meleah is forced to do things the same (even though Jennifer is not really sure that Meleah is doing things the same since she has been doing things differently for quite some time now and that might just mean that indeed she is doing things differently if she has to go back to doing things the same) because she loves Meleah with all her heart, even though she has never actually met Meleah, she feels as if they should have been sisters and were probably separated at birth or something. Jennifer can easily see the resemblance between herself and Meleah.

Jennifer signed up to DTD on Facebook a long time ago but Jennifer has been really busy so she never totally DTD. And by that she means that she forgot all about doing things differently and just continued to do them the same.

But not today. Jennifer is determined to DTD at least for the next 6 hours or so. Jennifer would really like to commit to more hours but Jennifer knows she has a really short attention span and it is probably not likely that she will be able to DTD for a whole entire day. Especially not on a Saturday when there are so ‘many’ things that need to be done the same (though, Jennifer wonders if she were to mix things up a bit by say cutting the grass while listening to music when she doesn’t usually listen to music while cutting the grass, qualifies as DTD). Jennifer will be doing things differently by making sure all the children on the block play at another parent’s house so Jennifer doesn’t ‘lose it’. Jennifer will also not be picking up after said children. Jennifer realizes that she says this everyday and then caves in and picks up after the children because she can not stand to look at her living room when it is filled with 300 Barbies. Jennifer is quite confident that she can stick to her guns today because she has locked the children out of the house before the 300 Barbies were let loose on the living room.

Jennifer is inviting all of you to do things differently too. Jennifer, nor Meleah, does not expect anyone to make drastic changes because they just don’t work. Jennifer invites you to try to make one small change today and build on that success. Jennifer also invites you to post about DTD on your blog so that Meleah doesn’t freak out because she can’t DTD for a while longer.

Jennifer is now going to put on her ‘outfit’ and go outside and walk around the block 6 times in a row for the first day in a row.

I am DTD this morning. I sat at the computer and let Alex feed the hungry dogs. I generally will only entrust this to myself or to Cesar Milan. I did this before I read this post Jen, and I think I'm going to DTD all day long. We have a bottle of champagne in the refrig. It's 10:20 AM here, and I may go open it!

Linda, Jennifer thinks that popping the champagne at 10:20 am is taking DTD
to a whole 'nother level and thinks that you rock. Jennifer also wonders
what kind of shoes you are wearing today. Jennifer also wants Linda to know
that she has been thinking about the 'warm tap water' a lot. Not enough to
try to drink the 'warm tap water' but enough to consider it. Jennifer just
realized if she drank 'warm tap water' it would indeed be doing things
differently.

It would have been better if you had told Jennifer that while speaking in
the third person. But DTD is all about small changes so one thing at a time.

I am DTD already and didn't know I was “in the loop” lol. I am in a rut at Curves. So Monday I began doing the power walk thing with my daughter ahead of me on a scooter, SCREAMING at me to GO GO GO or I will BE ON THE BIGGEST LOSER! I know we look crazy to neighbors.. who cares! Then I began working out w/my son's weight bench outside… I asked him to put baby weights on it to spot me. He said, “Ummm let's start with just the bar…” (humiliating)… BUT… how many 44 year old women are outside in the backyard lifting WEIGHTS… that bar is 40 to 50 lbs! Then I use 10 lb weights for other arm work. I did curves once, basically to avoid my evil daughter trainer who shows me no mercy. So I worked out every day this week, with LOTS of walking. DTD!

Well…I have definitely been doing things differently yesterday and today. Last night my gf was suddenly without her kids. (Not planned, her ex surprised her by inviting the kids to Great America and picking them up last night.) So when I found this out, I invited her over last night. This morning she ran home to feed the dogs and then came back, since my kids were going to be out with my ex partner. But not before my ex partner came over with her new gf and I boldly walked up, held out my hand and introduced myself. My gf came over after they all left and we went to lunch. Later tonight we're going out to a club, while I trust my more than old enough teens to be on their own for the evening. One will likely go to bed early, while the other will probably play video games until the wee hours…or until I come home, whichever comes first. All these things are DTD because for one, my gf and I were supposed to have our kids all weekend. For 2, I don't think I ever could have imagined myself being bold enough to politely introduce myself to the woman who stole away my partner. And for 3, I have yet to leave my kids in the evening for more than going out to dinner, even though they are plenty old enough to be home alone. All in all, a very DTD couple of days. Kinda proud of myself.

Well seeing how I love change, hey we only go around once right?? I shall also join in and DTD. As of now I shall talk about Glenn in the third person. I have no idea why Glenn decided to talk in the third person, maybe because of Glenns multiple personalities, or perhaps this post made Glenn think differently and liked the fact that Jennifer is also now in the third person. Glenn decided that why should Jennifer have all the fun. Glenn loves to steal other peoples ideas. Although Glenn will never admit to such. Actually I believe it was Glenn who first came up with the third person idea and as such should receive royalties from any who speaks in the third person.

And with that, anyone who speaketh in the third person, shall deposit a $1 into Glenns PayPal account or be stalked for ever more with Glenn's other 14 personalities, being very careful never to meet Glenn number nine, the serial tickler from NY.

Jennifer is tickled that Glenn would choose to participate in Meleah's DTD
even though Jennifer is not sure that Glenn doesn't usually talk about
himself in the third person. And by that she really means that though she
also loves Glenn with all her heart (even though she has also never actually
met Glenn) she thinks Glenn might really have several different distinct
personalities, which then is not really DTD. Jennifer also wonders if she
hasn't confused by now.

Nicky wants to say thank you to Jennifer for 2 things. First, for carrying the torch for the wonderful and inspiring Meleah, who Nicky adores. Nicky took a chance and DTD today. Instead of an inane edition of cheese news, or something equally silly, she put up a post written by her son, about a very serious topic. And that brings us to the second thing, thank you for posting that lovely, lovely comment for Jake. It made Nicky get all teary-eyed, and that is also DTD because usually Nicky laughs at Jennifer's comments.

It is easy to confuse Glenn and also to be confused by Glenn. At first I thought the post was all about STD's, for which Glenn has always been a believer of clean hygiene and yes of course making sure the SEAT is down. Perhaps Glenn needs a vacation, but cannot afford at this time to get 17 different rooms to hold all of Glenn's other personalities. Now Jenn tells Glenn and perhaps this will make Glenn's wife happier, yet personality 4 is hell bent on making life miserable for Glenn's wife. Last week Bruno (Glenn number 4) used obscenities on the mirror in the bathroom with a bar of soap. For which Glenn's wife had the pleasure of making the couch Glenn's bed for the past week. Glenn has decided to start to take prescribed meds to lessen the amount of personalties Glenn manifests down to a reasonable number of three. The butcher, the baker and the candle stick breaker. Hell hath no fury like a woman being called a bitch using Irish Spring. And no Glenn does not drink alcoholic beverages, as you can see there is no need.

Meleah wants Laura to know that talking in the 3rd person ROCKS, and it doesn't matter how many people she annoys by doing it.

But, Meleah wants The Girl Laura to heed this warning.

Talking in the 3rd person ONLY becomes 'problematic' when/if she starts THINKING in the 3rd person.

For instance, Laura should become 'concerned' when she's in the grocery store and she thinks 'What does Laura want for dinner”.

That's when Meleah realizes she should start talking in the FIRST person. At least every once in a while.

Jennifer, Linda used to drink a little champagne at 8 AM. Now it's seldom or never. And Linda wants to make sure that you realize she's talking about hot tap water, not warm. Warm tap water is yucky. Today Linda is wearing 3″ Anne Klein heels with a little platform in black and white canvas.
